JUNE 1 -DAY 1
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
GEOLOGY CLASS CONSISTED OF MULTIPLE TOPICS
MATH FOCUSED ON GRAPHING WITH DISTANCE PROBES.

OUTDOOR INSRUCTION
WE STARTED OUR ACTIVITY AT ELMER THOMAS DAM. WE VIEWED MT SCOTT GRANITE AND STUDIED TWO DIKES THAT HAVE INFILTRATED THE GRANITE. WE THEN MOVED TO THE MT SCOTT PICNIC AREA TO CONTRAST THE TWO AREAS. THE DAM AREA HAD LESS VEGETATION AND LOOKED MUCH LIKE IT DID 550 MILLION YEAR WHEN IT WAS FORMED. THE PICNIC AREA CONTAINED MORE SEDIMENT THUS MORE VEGETATION.
JUNE 2 - DAY 2
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
TUESDAY WE STARTED WITH USING NOVA 5000 AND FORCE/DISTANCE PROBES. WE ANALYIZED THE MEASURE OF FORCE AND DISTANCE USING A LINE OF BEST FIT. THE PROJECT WAS SIMILAR TO HOOKS LAW (F=KX) WHERE RUBBER BANDS WERE THE K (CONSTANT).

GEOLOGY CLASS FOCUSED ON CONVERGENT AND DIVERGENT BOUNDRIES. ANSWERING THE QUESTION HOW WERE THE WICHITA MOUNTAINS FORMED AND THE PROCESSES THAT TOOK PLACE.

OUTDOOR INSTRUCTION
VISITED THE HISTORICAL FT SILL TAR PIT, ONE OF THE OLDEST ACTIVE TAR PITS IN THE WORLD. THE GARBER SANDSTONE ALLOWS OIL TO SEEP TO THE SURFACE.
WE ALSO BRIEFLY TOURED THE MEDICINE BLUFF HISTORIC SITE. THIS 300 FT BLUFF IS FORMED OF CARLTON RHYOLITE, CHARACTERISTIC OF IGNEOUS ROCKS THAT COOL CLOSE TO THE SURFACE.

JUNE 3 - DAY 3
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
TODAY WE STUDIED CONSTANT VELOCITY. WE MEASURED A DISTANCE AND TIMED BATTERY OPERATED CARS TO DETERMINE V=D/T.
OUTDOOR INSTRUCTION
WE MET AT CAMP DORIS TO STUDY STRIKE AND DIP (SLOPE). WE ALSO TOOK ELEVATION READINGS WITH GPS TO COMPARE SLOPE AND ELEVATION.

JUNE 4 - DAY 4
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
TODAYS CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION INCLUDED A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT TOPICS. MATH CLASS FOCUSED ON AN EXPERIMENT WE NEED TO COMPLETE AT BEAVERS BEND.
IN THE SCIENCE CLASSROOM, WE STUDIED HOW TO IDENTIFY ROCKS.
OUTDOOR INSTRUCTION
WE WENT TO MT SCOTT TO START OUR "VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP". WE TOOK ELEVATION READINGS AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE MOUNTAIN. WE ALSO WENT TO THE SUMMIT TO VIEW SHERIDAN MT TO THE WEST TO COMPARE AND CONTRAST TREE GROWTH ON THE MOUNTAIN. YOU NOTICE HEAVY TREE GROWTH ON THE LOWER PART OF THE MOUNTAIN DUE TO ERODED GABBRO.
